Compact Demolition Robots Solve Access Problems

17 December 2024 News articles

Construction and demolition contractors run into access challenges for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, the jobsite requires them to work in an area with a limited footprint or floor load concerns. In these types of situations, they often require the same amount of hitting power as a full-sized excavator or wrecking ball without support for the equipment size. It’s not easy to find equipment that balances compact size with impressive power for these projects, but Brokk has your back.

Brokk demolition robots feature hitting power equal to equipment many times their size. But these scrappy, compact machines can go where most standard excavators can’t.

  1. Through Doors

A standard interior doorway stands at 6.6 feet tall and 3 feet wide but can be as narrow as 2 feet wide. The Brokk 70, the smallest demolition robot in our arsenal, is only 23.5 inches wide, just under 2 feet. With the outriggers drawn up, the Brokk can easily travel through even the smallest doorways.

  2. Inside Elevators

Elevators can be a hit or a miss when it comes to how much weight they’re able to carry. A standard residential elevator usually features a weight limit of around 1,500 pounds, but a commercial elevator can have capacity for up to 5,000 pounds. The Brokk 70 weighs 1,235 pounds and easily fits through the standard door size of an elevator.

The Brokk 110 or Brokk 170 can fit through the door of the elevator without much trouble. However, both are heavier than a residential elevator allows. Make sure to check the weight capacity before deciding how to transport your machine.

  3. Up Stairs

Brokk demolition robots come standard with rubber tracks, which provide advantages for efficiently accessing different floors of a building. The robot can easily climb a staircase while remote-controlled operation allows the operator to position themselves safely off to the side or in front of the machine.

  4. On Rooftops

When top-down demolition is called for, many contractors use a crane to place the machine on the roof or upper level. Thanks to outriggers with dedicated lifting points, it’s an easy process to transport a Brokk.

  5. Low-Emission Spaces

Brokk demolition robots have been electric since their inception nearly 50 years ago. While other manufacturers are just entering the electric market, Brokk has been optimizing electric equipment for decades. When a project requires no or low emissions, Brokk brings the power and endurance without the fumes.
